Being a good programmer

Here is a great talk by Jonathan Blow (developer of Braid) on the topic of  being a good and efficient independent developer.

I disagree with a few of his comments, but for the most there is lots of good stuff there.

Looking through his blog, I’m impressed by the dedication to practical solutions, and the openness with which he and his teammates discuss the technical and artistic challenges they face.

I also agree with his statements about most computer graphics papers: they propose overly complex solutions to problems then end up only being valid in very constrained scenarios. My favorite papers are the ones that discuss how things ended up being implemented in a shipping game – techniques from these articles can generally actually be applied.
